Day Trip to Kaw Reservoir

Took off this morning and drove to Ark City
and along the Arkansas River to Kaw Oklahoma
Was warm with a little wind but really a great day considering its january30.
The road closed sign was on the other side of the bridge NONE on our side

October 26-29 Missouri Trip

We left on Monday and went to the Branson Missouri area.

Afraid we missed the bright colors in the trees but it was still pretty

Our regular campground just outside Forsyth had closed early to repave the campground so we
stayed in the Shadow Rock campground just across the river.

Our first night a rogue storm passed thru....it wasn't in the forecast and it came and went so quick
we didn't even have time to take cover. It turned out to be alot of wind and rain for only a few minutes.
We had some small branches bounce off camper and jeep but no damage.
The campsite just north of us had a tree blow down...thankfully no one was camped in that row

We drove all the backroads in and around the Mark Twain National Forest
and even found some roads we don't think we've been down before

Weather was great !

Our last nite there it got down to 27 degrees....brrrrrrr thank goodness for electric blanket!

Birthday Party

Friday was Nova's Birthday so we went to eat Saturday night at Bonefish Grill
Which was very good (I recommend the fish and chips)
We came home and had cake and ice cream
Just wanted Blake and Ethan and Ally to know we had a party for Grandma Nova
Wish you guys could have been here too!

Day Trip to the Salt Plains

Such a nice day we drove to the Salt Plains in Oklahoma today
Think it reached 70 degrees
We had a pleasant surprise when we got there we heard sandhill cranes
We could hear them and finally saw some in the air they must be just passing
thru because we didnt' see any on the ground
Sure seems early for them....maybe spring isn't to far away afterall

Last Saturday Nova and I drove to Edmond Oklahoma for our
"Girls Birthday Luncheon"
Most of us have birthdays in December and January and this gives us reason to celebrate
This is our third(?) time?
We met at Inspirations Tea House in Edmond
It was a fun day with the "Girls"!

For the past I don't know how many years we have had a pair of robins
build a nest in our flowering crab apple tree.
Wish there was a way to tell if it was the same couple ...
but can't imagine others coming to same tree...same branch.
The last week or so I have noticed a couple of robins hanging around
so we are hoping it is them.
I'm thinking this is Ethel...she's here more often than Fred.
She comes every evening about supper time and takes her bath! ; -)

New Birdhouse and New Butterfly Handkerchief

Keep forgetting to post a couple of new things.
First is a new birdhouse camper....it has a battery for solar so it lights up at night
and adding a new butterfly handkerchief to my collection
I had to have this one because I've never seen one with a butterfly in each corner
usually they are only in one corner

Butterflys on my Lilac Bush

I just happened to look out the back door after supper tonite
and saw all kinds of butterflies flitting around my lilac bush...
so of course I had to rush out with my camera
There were 3 different kinds of butterflies and
on the third picture here
I didn't realize there were 2 in the picture until I downloaded ....DOUBLE BONUS!

About 2 days ago in the midst of the wind and rain and cold
we noticed alot of activity on the nest.
We started seeing more of Fred.
When we got a chance we took the stick and mirror that we rigged up
and looked and sure enough 3 babies

Blake and I went to McD's and had chicken nuggets for lunch then went to Walmart
and he picked out 2 fabrics to make an apron
We got so busy and was having so much fun I forgot to take pics
but here is the final product
Blake actually did alot of the pinning and sewing himself
The apron is reversible and both sides have a center divided pocket
He did a GREAT JOB!
Then we watched "MegaMind" movie and even managed to get him home in time for supper
I had a fun day!

ETHEL'S MOTHERS DAY

At about 7:00AM this morning we heard some commotion in the tree
and noticed that one of the babies had flown out of nest and onto the ground
Ethel got all excited then the baby hopped on over and into the heavy foliage
There are still 2 in the nest....one still looks awfully small
The biggest one was the first to leave

MY MOTHERS DAY

Well my Mothers Days wasn't as planned but it was still great
Two weeks ago I invited everyone for chicken noodles supper
well in the meantime I have somehow managed
to get a full blown yukky head cold
Have had it since Tuesday....
so really I'm on the downhill side of it but still not up to par
So I cancelled supper but everyone came over this morning for a few minutes...
The worst part of it was that I didn't think
I should be giving any hugs or kisses so that was hard
But I still had a Great Mothers Day with them albeit short
I got Flowers... my favorite nail polish
a Gift Card for my Favorite Quilt Shop (I feel a quilt coming on)
and a Gorgeous Purple Grandma Plaque to hang on my wall
THX.. I have the bestest kids in the WORLD!

I'm on my second week of this crud and hubby in his first week
I lost my voice last week and he is just losing his
I had a deep hoarse husky voice and his is high and squeeky (lol)
and I think the cough syrup stuff is giving me the giggles

Had Cabin Fever This Afternoon

We had cabin fever this afternoon so decided to take a short drive
The temperature stayed right on 109 most of the time
but once I looked up and it jumped to 113
We drove south of town to the Ninnescah River
It is sure dry but we saw alot of Gar and Carp and a few Egrets
Even as dry as it is the river still looked pretty

With our temps being so hot this summer I am trying to keep
water in my bird bath and keeping flowers watered just to keep it cool for them
This bluejay is checking out my duck decoy
notice the wimpy flowers...usually they are really tall and full by this time of year
but this year no matter how much water you put on them they are wilted by afternoon

END of YEAR 2 Day Trip

Could not pass up the chance to take a drive and enjoy the great weather for the end of the year
So we took off and drove to SE Kansas and into Oklahoma
It got up to 72degrees Thursday was an absolutely gorgeous day
We drove thru Medicine Lodge and the Gyp Hills and saw these big ranches
with mile after mile of buffalo
We saw so many deer and armadillos
Sad to say that the water level of the lakes is still critical but recent rain has helped a little.

We stopped at "Glass Mountain or Gloss Mountain"
they are so called because of the selenite
there is a trail up the side of it
there are some stairs that are pretty steep and in need of repair
and then almost to the top had to climb rocks... but I MADE IT ! ! !
and then when on top it is flat and to circle it probably a 1/2 mile hike
What a view from the top....afraid the pics dont' really show the depth tho

We took several back roads and found alot of old abandon houses
which I cannot resist

First we made each one a bandana then we baked cookies
After lunch we went on a hike on the river
We picked up rocks and sticks and shells

I should have paid attention to my Horoscope today.
It said I would have a bad day!
BUT this morning went soooo good....made 3 pillowcases
So this afternoon while pressing my quilt blocks I thot I would stitch
a crazy quilt block
It was going pretty good and was almost finished with the block
when the thread in the bobbin got caught or something and pulled the
whole project out of hoop and of course there is no way to get it back right
So I have a headless chicken LOLOL
I decided to clean up my mess and cleaned the machine and wound bobbins
MAYBE TOMORROW or NEXT YEAR EVEN ; -) ! ! !
I did get all 120 6" quilt blocks done and pressed ..... so I had to see what they
would look like put together so laid some out.
Cant' wait to start sewing on it again

Christmas 2010

Randy and Nova came over for Christmas Dinner
We had chicken noodles, mashed potatoes, green beans, salad
and Nova made a delicious cherry mash cheesecake

After dinner we opened presents sent to us by Tara and the kids.
I got a picture frame with Grandma stuff on it
and Great Grandpa got a book "Stories Never Told" war history stuff
Nova got a beautiful Alaska Tshirt and Randy a bicycle water bottle from Alaska bike shop
Randy and Nova got me a magnetic picture frame with butterfly's and a photo album
and Mert got some new Crocs
We no sooner opened presents when Tara called and we all took turns talking to the kids
Was a very nice christmas

Birds in backyard

Last week Mert was in the backyard when these little birds showed up
He stood still for quite awhile watching them then one hopped up on his toe
like the bird didn't even notice he was there
Then today a whole flock of them came back
They were picking something out of the green grass and they were so quick
I could hardly get a picture
They also lit on the tree sideways like a nuthatch does
They left as fast as they came

We drove to Goddard to the Prairie Sunset Trail.
This is a Rails To Trails Bike Path and I believe it is about 8 miles long
Even with a bit of a breeze it was still very nice walking

It was such a beautiful day we decided to go for a walk. We drove to Goddard to the Prairie Sunset Trail. This is a Rails To Trails Bike Path and I believe it is about 8 miles long Even with a bit of a breeze it was still very nice walking We did on the short side of 4 miles.

"Sharing" their candy with Great Grandma and Great Grandpa ; -)

Oldest Great Grandson Ethan in the
Fifth Grade Christmas Program last nite.

The 5th Grade Band and Orchestra had a program this morning.
I of course just focused on the Orchestra and the Cello Player ; -)
They did a great job!

Had a great day with "the kids"
Opened presents in the morning....
then Randy Nova and Tara came over for chicken noodle supper

Had another spring like day today so we drove to Kingman
Drove out to Kingman Lake and Wildlife area
Only picture I took was of this roadrunner

When the kids were out of school one day last week we had a "craftday"
Then last nite we carved pumpkins
Is sooooo good to have them back home to do these fun things ; -)

I tried something new today
Awhile back I bought the "Lil Twister" templates
I used the small one for this tablerunner
Can't wait to use the larger template
I feel a quilt coming on ; -)

It was such a beautiful day we decided to go for a walk.
We drove to Goddard to the Prairie Sunset Trail.
This is a Rails To Trails Bike Path and I believe it is about 8 miles long
Even with a bit of a breeze it was still very nice walking
We did on the short side of 4 miles.
